The Cleveland County Board of Elections will meet at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 8, in the Commissioners Chamber of the Cleveland County Administration Building at 311 E. Marion St.in Shelby, not at the Elections Board office where it usually does.
This is the meeting at which the Board has said it intends to take definitive action that would initiate the process of merging the Shelby 6 and 7 precincts into one effective for the November 2014 general election and to merge Shelby 1, 2, and 3 precincts into one effective for the November 2015 general election.
The Elections Board's meetings are open to the public. Obviously the Board anticipates that the number of those attending will be greater than usual to observe or make the short comments to the Board permitted before the scheduled business agenda is taken up.
CCDP expects to be at the meeting to reaffirm and advocate for the party's position: that the Elections Board should not take action now but defer any consideration of any precinct changes until after the 2016 presidential-year election.
CCDP Chair Robin Smith encourages other Cleveland Dems to attend the meeting as well if they can, to see first-hand what takes place, to demonstrate with presence support of the party position, and to express personal opinion or question to the Board if so wished.
