McDevitt keynotes festive party fundraising event

Dozens of Cleveland County Democrats gathered May 31, 2012, for the party's Century Club Gala, raising funds for the fall general election campaign while greatly enjoying the fellowship of like-minded friends.

The dinner at Cleveland Country Club in Shelby  featured John T. McDevitt of Morganton as keynoter. The retired Burke County sheriff, a native of Kings Mountain, is Democratic candidate for the North Carolina Senate in District 46, which comprises Cleveland and Burke counties.

Introduced  by his friend and law enforcement colleague, Cleveland Sheriff Alan Norman, McDevitt had those present both chuckling at his dry humor and applauding as he reminded them of the Democratic Party's principles, contributions, and key differences with Republicans.

Century Club Co-Chair Betsy Wells had special thanks for the team of volunteers who supported the event and for sponsors whose special contributions helped ensure the Century Club was successful in its goal--building the campaign fund that will help Democratic candidates get elected Nov. 6. The party will use the funds for such activities as opening headquarters, promoting registration and voting, and holding candidate-citizen events.
