(Oct. 1, 2011) Fall brings the Cleveland County Fair, and with it the traditional gathering of local political parties in their exhibit hall booths, good-naturedly facing each other across the aisle. In 2012, Cleveland County Young Democrats took on the assignment of planning and installing our booth around the theme "We are the future." They were joined in staffing the booth by leaders from the county's Democratic precinct organizations and other volunteers. Many thousands of people from Cleveland and surrounding counties thronged the exhibit hall and fair as Carolina fall weather generally held perfect.
With non-partisan elections for county school board, various municipal offices, and other posts coming up in November, we offered all Democratic candidates the opportunity to use our booth to greet fairgoers and offer their campaign posters, cards, and other items. At the same time, we reminded Dems and independents to ready for the November 2012 elections when we'll vote for key offices from president to governor to county commission and more.
We distributed information about our party and application forms for newly registering to vote or updating registration. One corner of a table encouraged fairgoers to contact their elected officials in Washington and Raleigh concerning the importance of action to create jobs for Americans. We gave out cards providing contact information for these officials.
Thanks to these volunteers and the many others who showed our Dem spirit at the fair!
