Dear Democratic Colleagues,
This is to let you know that, with regret, I am resigning from the chairmanship of Cleveland County Democratic Party, effective July 31, 2018.
As many of you are aware, several months ago I began a new job that has required my commuting and frequent travel. Next week I will be relocating to Raleigh for work and continued education opportunities meaning I am no longer eligible to serve as your party chair.
What a privilege and pleasure it has been to work with you all. August of 2008 was the first CCDP meeting I attended and it has been a great 10 years filled with friendships and opportunities I will never forget. I deeply appreciate your sustained support, good wishes, and help. The party has had many changes and challenges over the years, but I am confident Cleveland County Democrats will carry on with unflagging spirit in the months ahead. Go, Dems!
Last night (8/9/2018) your formal letter of resignation was read to the Executive Committee. It was with much sadness the motion to accept your resignation was passed.
You have been a phenomenal contributor & much appreciated party leader, greatly respected by every democrat that has had the pleasure of working with you. Betsy Wells shared a story of your early involvement with the party, back when you were too young to drive yourself to meetings. There was not a single person in that meeting that didn’t have a fond memory of you. Your level of commitment at such a young age is immeasurably admirable. Your enthusiasm & gusto will be greatly missed.
On behalf of the Democratic Party of Cleveland County, thank you for your many years of service. Thank you for your vision. Thank you for your leadership. We have lost a great man with your departure, but the positive impact you have made will be felt for years to come. The party as a whole, as well as all the folks you have worked with personally, wish you only the best in your future endeavors. You will move on to do amazing things & we all look forward to your future successes.
With Respect & Well Wishes,
The Democratic Party of Cleveland County
On August 9th, 2018 the Democratic Party of Cleveland County held a meeting of the Executive Committee. We had 17 committee members present (enough to qualify as a quorum). In this meeting, we addressed the resignation of our Chairman, Nick Carpenter.
Because of the fast approaching election season, & the critical need for leadership in our “busy season”, we proceeded to elected a new party Chair. I, Kaylynn Beaver, was honored to come recommended by Nick, to be nominated by BJ Zamora (Chair of Shelby Central), & to have that nomination seconded by Don Campbell (Vice Chair of Kings Mountain North). The motion to close nominations & consider it an election by acclimation was made by Doug Sharp (Member of the Cleveland County Board of Elections) & seconded by Jerry Blake (Chair of Shanghai & CCDP Treasurer). This motion was passed unanimously.
I know I haven’t had the opportunity to meet the majority of you personally, as I was only elected into the Secretary position at our April convention. Because of that, I wanted to take a moment to formally introduce myself to those of you that may not be familiar with my background.
I began my professional life as a writer, and built a small company of copywriters. After acquiring some technical certifications, as well as certificates in project management (including six sigma & scrum) I moved on to consulting for IT firms in the SMB space. Upon moving to Shelby I became a board member for the Abuse Prevention Council, as well as the CCDP Secretary. I like to think that my technical aptitude, as well as my leadership & project planning skills will lend themselves well to the position of Chair.
For the moment, I will continue acting as Secretary in addition to taking on the Chairmanship. However, that is a fair amount to take on & we are actively looking for someone interested in & qualified to fill the role.
In the mean time, if there is anything I can do to assist in the growth of the Democratic Party, in the election of our fine candidates, or even something I can help one of you with personally, please do not hesitate to reach out any time.
